Veterans must enroll to receive VA healthcare services. Enrollment is based on priority groups 1 through 8 determined by service history, disability rating, and income.
Priority Group 1 — Veterans with 50% or higher service-connected disability or receiving VA pension
Priority Group 2 — Veterans with 30% to 40% service-connected disability
Priority Groups 3 to 8 — Based on other service factors and income
If you cannot easily access a VA facility you may be eligible for care from a community provider paid by the VA. You qualify if:
· You live more than 40 miles from a VA facility
· Wait times exceed VA standards
· VA does not offer the service you need
· Your VA provider refers you to a specialist
Free mental health care for all eligible veterans including:
· PTSD treatment and counseling
· Depression and anxiety treatment
· Substance use disorder treatment
· Military Sexual Trauma counseling
· Suicide prevention — Veterans Crisis Line: 988 then press 1
VA offers video appointments with VA providers from your home including:
· Primary care visits
· Mental health counseling
· Specialty care consultations
· Pharmacy consultations

VA dental care is available to veterans who meet specific eligibility criteria:
· 100% service-connected disability — full dental care
· Service-connected dental condition — care for that condition
· Former POW — full dental care
· Veteran in vocational rehabilitation — limited dental
· Enrolled veterans may qualify for dental insurance through VA
VA provides vision care for conditions related to military service. Routine eye exams may be available for veterans with certain conditions including:
· Diabetes
· Service-connected eye conditions
· Age-related macular degeneration
Veterans may also qualify for eyeglasses through VA
The Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers provides support including:
· Monthly stipend for caregivers
· Health insurance for caregivers
· Mental health services for caregivers
· Respite care
· Adult day health care
Available for eligible post-9/11 veterans and expanding to all eras
Every VA facility has a Women Veterans Program Manager. Services include:
· Gynecology and reproductive health
· Maternity care coordination
· Military Sexual Trauma treatment
· Breast and cervical cancer screening
· Menopause management
VA provides prescription medications at low or no cost to enrolled veterans:
· Priority Group 1 to 6 — free prescriptions for service-connected conditions
· Priority Group 7 and 8 — co-pay may apply
· Mail-order pharmacy available — 90 day supply delivered to your home
· Over 11,000 medications on VA formulary
